FAQ

Questions owners ask before we start

Short answers about fractional leadership, fees, healthcare work and how engagements run.

What does a fractional executive do?

A fractional executive is a senior leader who works inside your organization part-time, usually four to eight hours a week. Unlike a consultant who delivers recommendations and leaves, a fractional leader owns outcomes: setting priorities, running the leadership rhythm and holding the team accountable.

How is that different from hiring a consultant?

A consulting engagement has a defined scope and end date, such as an assessment or a project recovery. A fractional engagement is ongoing leadership. BK Executive Advisory offers both, and the introductory call is where we decide which fits.

How much does it cost?

Fees are quoted per engagement after the complimentary consultation, so you pay for the scope you need. Options include hourly advisory, fixed-fee assessments and monthly fractional retainers, and retainers can be ended with 30 days' notice. All proposals are in U.S. dollars.

How does a fractional executive compare with a full-time hire?

A full-time chief operating officer in the U.S. typically costs $250,000 to $450,000 or more a year in salary and benefits. Fractional COO retainers in the U.S. market commonly start around $5,000 a month for roughly a day a week. You get senior experience for the hours you need, with no recruiting fee and no long-term commitment.

When are you not the right fit?

When you need someone on site full-time every day, when the main need is hands-on clinical work, or when you want a large team of consultants. In those cases BK will tell you on the first call and, where possible, suggest who can help.

Do you work with businesses in Middle Tennessee?

Yes. BK is based in Franklin and works with organizations in Franklin, Brentwood, Nashville and across Middle Tennessee, in person when useful. Most engagements elsewhere in the U.S. and abroad are remote.

Do you work with home care and healthcare organizations?

Yes. It is the area where BK's experience runs deepest: eight years as President & General Manager of a Middle Tennessee home care agency, plus earlier work building hospital billing, claims and patient-records software for the U.S. market.

Can you help us prepare for a state survey or audit?

Yes. BK met state audit and compliance requirements throughout eight years leading a home care agency, and can review your documentation, processes and billing before an audit and help you close gaps.

Do you work remotely? What about clients outside Tennessee?

Most work is remote, with on-site visits when the scope calls for them. BK works with clients across the U.S. and internationally, including early-morning or evening calls with India, the UK and Europe.

Who actually does the work?

BK does. BK Executive Advisory is a founder-led practice, so the person you meet on the first call is the person who does the work.

Will you sign a confidentiality agreement?

Yes. BK is glad to sign a mutual NDA before reviewing confidential information.

How quickly can you start?

BK replies to new inquiries within one business day, sends a written scope within three business days of the consultation, and usually starts within one to two weeks of an agreed scope.
